"Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee." Genesis 12:1
In the spring of 2007, Elder Trevis A. Hall answered the call to the pastoral ministry after God had confirmed this new assignment with prophecies, signs, and visions. Initially, this was not an easy decision for Elder Hall after having served nearly eighteen (18) years at the New Bethel Church Of God In Christ (founded by the late Bishop Sherman S. Howard). Nevertheless, his answer was a resounding "Yes, Lord."
Taking the name the Lord had given him one morning when he awoke, and the supporting scripture, "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." (John 10:10), Elder Hall set out to fulfill the plan of God for his life.
With the blessing of his pastor, Bishop Neavelle A. Coles, Elder Hall began making preparations for the new ministry. He was joined in prayer, planning, and preparation by his sister, Tricia Hall, and dear friends, Elder Phyllis Gorham and Conchita "Candy" Parker. Time after time, God showed His favor in their plans by opening doors (and even shutting some) and by expediting the legal, logistical, and civil processes necessary to make this dream a reality.
On August 13, 2007, Abundant Life Church Of God In Christ was officially incorporated in the District of Columbia. And on Sunday, September 2, 2007, the Abundant Life COGIC held its first worship celebration at 2373 Rhode Island Ave., NE, Washington, DC. This worship space was made possible through a providential agreement with Pastors Jayme and Danny McCrimmon and the Capital Temple COGIC. From the very beginning, the presence of the Lord has certainly been in this place. On the first Sunday, three (3) souls were saved and in addition to Pastor Hall, Sis. Tricia, and Sis. Candy, eight (8) other persons became foundational members.
In order that more friends could celebrate with the newly formed Abundant Life Church, Pastor Donnell Smith and the Emmanuel COGIC family graciously opened their doors and a "Grand Opening" Celebration was held on September 30, 2007. Family members and friends traveled from far and near to pray for, encourage, and support the ministry.
The Lord continues to add souls, gifts, and talents to the church. In the very first year, a number of ministries were birthed. They included the Music, Usher, Liturgical Arts, Outreach, Internet, Hospitality, Youth, Shepherd's Care, and Intercessors Ministries.
God has certainly made Abundant Life Church a place of "restoration, redemption, and radical worship". This branch of Zion strives to witness to the lost, empower the saved, and advance the Kingdom of God as the vision continues to grow and unfold.
